A 1980s home was completely transformed with a full reconfiguration of the layout of the home and its design style. The kitchen which was at the front of the house was relocated to the center overlooking the family room and dining. Main walls blocking the access to daylight from the backyard were removed and the window heights were elongated to allow for more light to shine in. At the initial phase, Square Vis Architects studied the site for a full addition and interior renovation. We created a timeline and budget for the cost and desire to transform the home to a modern open concept home with mid-to high level of finishes. Based on the research and findings, a phased construction approach was adopted where the main and interior upgrading of finishes would occur first and the second phase of construction in the future would be an addition on the upper level. This approach allowed the homeowners to enjoy the benefits of a renovated home to their taste and the time to arrange their finances so that they were ready for the next stage of adding two to three more bedrooms on the second level.
The design took into consideration all future plans to rebuild an addition on top of the existing main floor level so that there was no need to re-do any work. The results were 100% to the satisfaction of the homeowner and all their guests
